Mary E. Bayus (nee Kaplar) 96 of Whiting passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, October 26, 2016. She is survived by her grandchildren, Annette (Matthew) Markovich, Erica (Michael) Howarth, Keith (Jennifer) Bayus and Aaron Bayus; step-grandchildren, Mark Dobrowski and Katreena (Dennis) O’Malley; great grandchildren, Marisa, Mason and Michael Markovich, Alannah and Caden Bayus. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Kaplar; husband, Paul and son James Bayus.

Private funeral services were held on Saturday, October 29, 2016.  A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at 1:00pm  at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting with the Rev. John E. Kalicky, C.PP.S., officiating; interment followed at St. John Cemetery, Hammond.

Mary was born in Mohawk, Michigan on November 24, 1919. She lived a rich fulfilling life and was blessed to raise her granddaughter and nurture all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Thank You Grandma Mary!

Her favorite season was fall and she enjoyed many trips to Michigan City to see the fall foliage and colors. Mary loved to cook; some of her specialties included homemade spaghetti, halupki and her sunshine cake. She also loved to shop, dine out and spend time outdoors enjoying nature. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Memorials in Mary’s name may be made to St. John School Endowment Fund.
