John Valocik, 77 of Whiting passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at the William J. Riley Memorial Residence, Munster. He was the beloved husband of the late Ora Mae Tarpley Valocik who passed away December 27, 2012; loving father of John (Jane) Valocik of Highland, Janet (Tim) Plawecki of Whiting, Jill (Tommy) Smith of Jeffersonville, IN, Robert Alan (Deidre) Tarpley of Dongola, IL, Charles (Rose) Tarpley of Chesterton, Bruce Tarpley of Hammond and the late Diane Carol Tarpley; cherished grandfather of fourteen; adoring great grandpa of thirteen; dearest brother of Ann (late Andrew) Chovan of Whiting and the late Sandra Misicko; dear uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 9, 2013, 10:00am at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 118th St. and Atchison Ave., Whiting with Pastor Jacob W. Gaugert, officiating; interment to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville. Visitation at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00pm and at the church Saturday morning from 9:00am to time of services.

John Valocik was born on December 3, 1935 in Whiting, Indiana to John and Anna (Irha) Valocik and was a lifelong resident. He was a member of  the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Whiting and was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1953. John was a retiree of Federated Metals and was an avid sports fan cheering for all the Chicago teams. Devoted to his family, John will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
