Emil W. Buksar, 89 of Whiting, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the Franciscan Physicians Hospital, Munster. He was the beloved husband of the late Lorraine (Golubiewski) Buksar who passed away in 2002; loving father of Janice (late Bob) Gillis, Audrey (Robert) Hanchar, late William E. Buksar, Karen (John) Kertis and Nancy (John) Kricfalusi; cherished grandfather of Sam (Tina) Gillis, Lori (Tommy) Farmer, Carrie Hanchar, Brett (Mallorie) Hanchar, Allison (Jason) Lomeli, Ryan Kertis, Mallory (Danny) Misiak, Kelly Kertis, Johnny Kertis and Claire Kricfalusi; adoring great grandpa of Noah, Max, Seth, Bella, Kaylee and Izzy; dearest brother-in-law of JoAnn Buksar and Marilyn Buksar; dear uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, John, George and Steve and four sisters, Betty Kubeck Turich, Mary Stofcik, Margaret Bellovich and Helen Mahaffey,
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at Sacred Heart Church, Whiting with the Rev. Stanley J. Dominik, officiating; interment, St. Mary Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00pm.
Emil Buksar was born on December 24, 1927 in Whiting, Indiana to John and Irene Buksar. He was a lifelong resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community and was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Class of 1944. He was a WWII US Merchant Mariner and was a retiree of the LTV Steel Co., East Chicago, with over 30 years of service. Emil was a member of the former Whiting-Robertsdale Kiwanis Club and the Whiting-Robertsdale Senior Citizens Club. He was a volunteer at the Hammond-Whiting Care Center and as a “Red Coat” at St. Margaret Hospital, Dyer. He enjoyed golf, high school and college basketball, had participated in the Senior Olympics in Horseshoes and always enjoyed playing “Santa Claus”. Devoted to his family, Emil will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers memorials to St. Francis Center at the St. Margaret Mercy Healthcare Center, Hammond, would be appreciated.
