Mary Ann Sperka, 62 of Winfield, IN, formerly of Whiting, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at her residence. She was the beloved daughter of the late Milton and Adeline Sperka; cherished sister of Frank (Janet) Sperka of Whiting and Thomas (Francine) Sperka of Winfield; dearest aunt of Kristen Sperka of Naperville, IL, James (Phoebe) Sperka of Schaumburg, IL and John (Beth) Sperka of Temicula, CA; dear great aunt of Bryce Sperka.


Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 3, 2016, 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, with the Rev. Mark Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; cremation to follow; visitation at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 to 7:00pm; parish wake service on Sunday at 4:00pm.

Mary Ann Sperka was born on July 30, 1954 in Hammond, Indiana and was a lifelong resident of the Calumet Region. She was a graduate of Hammond Technical High School, Class of 1973 and was a retiree of the BP Amoco Whiting Refinery with over 25 years of service. Mary Ann was a very caring and loving person. She will be by all who knew and loved her, especially her two loving pets, “Morgan” and “Benji”, who she enjoyed so much. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Humane Society of Northwest Indiana would be appreciated.
