Florence M. Gresko (nee Gima) 94 of Whiting, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at the Hartsfield Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Munster. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph C. Gresko who passed away October 5, 2010; loving mother of Jack (Judy) Gresko of Whiting, Mary Therese (Dale) Robert of St. John, Catherine A. (George) Sperka of Munster and the late James A. Gresko; cherished grandmother of Krista (Bruce) Young, Abigail E. Young and Thomas (Amelia) Gresko; adoring great grandma of Carson and Avery Young; dear sister-in-law of Bernice (late George) Gima and Lorraine (late William) Williamson; nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Andrew and George Gima and a sister Marguerite Gima.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting with the Rev. John E. Kalicky, C.PP.S., offiating; interment, St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home  Friday from 2:00 to 8:00pm. The St. John Rosary Society, together with members of the parish, will offer prayers at the funeral home on Friday at 4:00pm.

Florence Gresko was born on January 23, 1923 in Whiting, Indiana to Andrew and Mary (Vargo) Gima and was a lifelong resident. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, the St. John Rosary Society, the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Assoc., BR. 81 and the American Legion, Whiting Post 80 Women’s Auxilliary. Florence was a retiree of the Whiting Clinic with a service of 20 years and had served many years on the Whiting Library Board. She was a avid reader and enjoyed playing card games and Scrabble. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Florence most of all enjoyed the time spent with her family, she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff of Hartsfield Village for the care and concern provided to Florence. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Paralyzed Veterans of America or to the charity of your choice, would be appreciated.
