William C. Mercer

William C. Mercer, 78 of Whiting, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2022 at the Community Hospital, Munster. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Donna (nee Blazina); loving father of William (Lynn), Aaron (Dawn) and Timothy (Paula); cherished grandpa of Lauden, Ryan (Brianna), Morgan, Kirsten, Jenna, Kyle, Zack and Gwyn; adoring great grandpa of Lucas, Lillian and Rose; dearest brother of Peggy (Alan) Wrigley and the late Martha Koleszarik; dear uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119^th Street, Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; cremation to follow; visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00pm. William Mercer was born on October 30, 1943 to Henry and Wynona Mercer. A lifelong resident of Whiting, he was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1962. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting and had served as the Athletic Director of Sacred Heart School, Whiting, for 20 years. He was a US Air Force Veteran of the Viet Nam Conflict and was a retiree of the Santa Fe Railroad, Chicago with a service of 21 years and Intermodal, Chicago, with a service of 20 years. He was a former officer of the Whiting B.P.O.E. Lodge 1273 and loved to go fishing. Devoted to his family, William will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
