William L. “Bill” Jansky, Sr., 87 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 11, 2023 surrounded by his most cherished family at his residence. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Dianne (nee Rusnack); loving father of William (Angela) Jansky, Jr. and Alisa (Francisco) Delgado; adoring grandpa of Vanessa and Christian Delgado; devoted niece, Leanne Jansky; proud uncle to many nieces and nephews; dearest brother-in-law of Robert (Sandy) Rusnack.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 11:00am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting, with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S. of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, officiating; cremation to follow; visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 3:00 to 8:00pm. The Whiting B.P.O.E., Lodge 1273 will conduct memorial services at the funeral home on Wednesday at 6:30pm. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on-line at www.baranfh.com.
Bill Jansky was born on March 27, 1936 in Whiting, Indiana, the sixth of seven children born to John and Antoinette (Podubinski) Jansky, all of whom preceded him in death. He was a lifelong resident of Whiting, a graduate of Hammond Technical High School, Class of 1954 and was a US Army Veteran of the Indiana National Guard with a service of ten years. Bill was a retiree of the Inland Steel Company, East Chicago with a service of 35 years. He was a member of the Whiting B.P.O.E. Lodge 1273, the American Legion Whiting Post 80, the Knights of Columbus, Pope John XXIII Council 1696, the Sokol Club and the Whiting Democratic Organization. Politically active, Bill was a former City of Whiting Councilman and Precinct Committeeman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. Devoted to his family, Bill will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
