William George Becich of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at his residence. He is survived by his beloved wife, Olga Jean (nee Lofay); loving father of William L. Becich; cherished brother of the late John (late Babe) Becich and the late Robert (late Mildred) Becich; many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 119th Street and Lincoln Avenue, Whiting with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; interment of cremains to follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the church on Wednesday morning from 9:00am to time of services. Bill Becich was born in Chicago, Illinois to John and Marie (Zawadzinsky) Becich. He was a longtime resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community and was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Class of 1943. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting and was a proud United States Navy Veteran. Bill served in both WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was stationed on the battleship, the USS West Virginia and was a Disabled American Veteran. He was a retiree of the Amoco Oil Company with a service of 36 years and was an excellent carpenter. Devoted to his family, Bill will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the St. John Steeple Renovation Fund, c/o St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1849 Lincoln Ave., Whiting, IN 46394, would be appreciated.
