Wilfred "Willie" Aponte

Wilfred “Willie” Aponte, 61 of Whiting, passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, June 26, 2022. Loving father of Justin (Michelle Cerros) Guettner; adoring grandpa of Kiera and Kylie Chambers; beloved son of George and Lydia Aponte; cherished brother of late George (Stephanie) Aponte, David (Janice) Aponte and Robert (Denise) Aponte; many dear nieces, nephews and cousins; dear friends, Karen Holmes and patrons of the former Midtown Station Bar, Whiting.

 Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at 12 noon at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting, with the Rev. Salvaraj Selladurai of Sacred Heart Church, Whiting, officiating; interment of cremains to follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary; visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00am to time of services. Willie Aponte was born on December 27, 1960. He was a lifelong resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community and had attended George Rogers Clark High School. He was a retiree of the LTV Steel Company, East Chicago and was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Whiting. Music was Willie’s passion and he was an excellent drummer. He was the drummer for the band “Exodus” for many years. He had a great sense of humor and always had a joke to share. Devoted to his family, Willie will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be appreciated.
