Virginia A. Galgan (nee Markut) 93 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 30, 2019 at the Hammond-Whiting Care Center. She is survived by her grandson, Brian Beasley; cherished aunt of Edwin A. (Laura) Markut, Greg (Nancy) Haluska and Mary (Dave Bokodi) Chepela; adoring great aunt of Angela (Brennen) Baker, Robert (Sarah) Markut, Lisa Markut and Keri Markut; proud great, great aunt of Jakob and Makenna Markut. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Beasley; brother, Edwin F. Markut and sisters, Alvina Chepela and Lillian Lane.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 6, 2020 at 10:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th Street, Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00am at St. Adalbert Church, Whiting with the Rev. Stanley J. Dominik, officiating; entombment to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville; visitation at the funeral home on Monday morning from 9:00am to time of services.
Virginia Galgan was born on October 2, 1926 in Whiting, Indiana to Frank and Margaret Markut. She was a lifelong resident and a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1944. Virginia was a member of St. Adalbert Church, Whiting and the Polish Women’s Alliance. She was a retired welder for General Motors with over 25 years of service. She enjoyed working with ceramics, quilting and making beautifully beaded Christmas ornaments. Devoted to her family, Virginia will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Adalbert Church, Whiting, would be appreciated.
