He was a veteran of the Illinois Air National Guard, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant while serving in Desert Storm. He earned an associate’s degree in respiratory therapy from Malcom X College in Chicago and was employed in healthcare for over 30 years. An avid Chicago Bears and White Sox fan, in keeping with his Chicago Southside roots, he also appreciated culture often visiting Chicago’s many museums and The Art Institute.
