Thelma Wright Obituary

Thelma L. Wright (nee Dollins) 87 of Whiting passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 6, 2024 surrounded by her most precious family at Franciscan Health, Munster. She was the beloved wife of 35 years to the late Bob E. Wright who passed away April 30, 1991; loving mother of Glenn (Laura) Wright and Brenda (Deon) Ervin; cherished grandmother of Jacob Wright (WPD); adoring great grandma of Savannah Clevenger. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Rhiannon Jurek; grandsons, Joshua and Jeremiah Wright; two sisters and four brothers. Thelma was a loving woman, taking care of many family members throughout her life.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at 10:00am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th Street, Whiting, with Pastor Brian Shaver of the Hammond New Harvest Worship Center, officiating; interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Crown Point; visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 4:00 to 8:00pm. Thelma Wright was born on April 17, 1937 in Marion, Kentucky to Fred, Sr. and Mildred Dollins. She was a lifelong resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community and was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1955. She was a devoted member of the Whiting Baptist Church, the American Legion, Whiting Post 80 Women’s Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile. She was a retiree of the School City of Whiting with a service of 13 years. Thelma was devoted to her family, friends and church. Her greatest joys were her vacations with Bob and her children, camping throughout the United States and time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was known for her wonderful baked goods and hosting family dinners. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
