Shirley Ann Yurkanin (nee Misicko) 76 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago. Loving mother of James (Kim) Yurkanin, Ann (Craig)) Yurkanin-Knoblauch and Michael (Rene Baughman) Yurkanin; cherished grandmother of Abby, Thomas, Zachery, Adam, Jaedin, Jayce, Larissa, Ben and Traytin; adoring great grandma of Kali, Fin and Amelia; dear aunt to many nieces and nephews; many extended family members. She was preceded in death by two brothers, William “Bill” Misicko and Joseph “Jerry” (Jeanette) Misicko.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at 11:00am at St. Mary’s Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church, 2011 Clark St., Whiting, with the Rev. Andrew Summerson, officiating; interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Crown Point; visitation at the church on Thursday morning from 10:00am to time of services. Shirley Yurkanin was born on May 12, 1946 to Joseph and Stella (Garun) Misicko. She was a lifelong resident of Whiting and was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1964. She was a member of St. Mary’s Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church, Whiting and the St. Mary Altar, Rosary and Sacred Heart Societies. She was a retiree of the School City of Whiting with a service of 25 years. A devoted mother and grandmother, Shirley will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her,
