Sharon R. Kometz (nee Mikula) 77 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on the early morning of Saturday, December 9, 2023. She is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, Michael; loving mother of Robert (Laura) Kometz, Jeannine (Daniel) Kristek and Dawn (Patrick) Ramirez; cherished grandmother of Logan Mansfield, Brittney Mansfield, late Adam Kometz, Desiree Kristek, Jordan Patrick, Rachel Kometz, Valerie Kristek and Julia Ramirez; adoring great grandma of James Mansfield and Brayden Beason; dearest sister of Carol (late Harry) Jacobson, Terry (Jan) Mikula, Mike (Sharon) Mikula and the late Joseph “JoJo” Mikula; dear sister-in-law of Donald Kometz; proud aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at 8:00pm at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting, with the Rev. Charles W. Niblick, officiating; cremation to follow; visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on-line at www.baranfh.com.
Sharon Kometz was born on April 28, 1946 to Joseph and Helen (Perhach) Mikula and was a lifelong resident of Whiting. She attended Immaculate Conception Grade School and was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1964. She was a member of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Assoc., BR. 81. Sharon enjoyed going to garage sales, playing bingo, sewing, baking, the occasional trip to a casino and time spent with her children and grandkids. Devoted to her family, she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Whiting “Gimme Shelter” (for pets), P.O.
