Rose T. Lubek, 96 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at the Community Hospital, Munster. She was the beloved daughter of the late John and Helen (Danko) Lubek and was preceded in death by her sister, Sr. M. Evangela, O.S.B. and her brother John (late Rose) Lubek. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at 10:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; interment to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville; visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 9:00am to time of services. The St. John Rosary Society will offer prayers at the funeral home on Wednesday morning at 10:00am. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on-line at www.baranfh.com.
Rose Lubek was born on September 18, 1928 in Whiting, Indiana. A lifelong resident, she was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1947 and went on to study at the Calumet College of St. Joseph, Hammond and Depaul University, Chicago. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, where she was a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the St. John Rosary Society (promotor), the Daughters of Isabella (past treasurer) and the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Assoc.. BR. 81. Always looking for an adventure, always looking to learn, Rose taught English as a second language and promoted literacy as a 20 year volunteer for the Calumet Area Literacy Council. She was involved with the Lake County Public Library’s Talking Book Program, narrating books onto cassette tapes for distribution to the visually impaired. She was a volunteer at the St. Joseph Soup Kitchen, Hammond and retired from the Mohican Corp., Chicago in 1993. She is a private pilot. Her love of travel took her on a six month, around the world adventure and she had flown on the Concorde. She was a woman of great faith and always believed if you’re going to be something, be the best you can.
