Obituary

Rose K. Gacsko (nee Jancich), age 92 of Whiting, passed away suddenly on Friday, June 2, 2023 at St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert J. Gacsko (retired, WPD) on January 1, 2006; loving mother of Robert “Bummer” (Laurie) Gacsko and Laura (Howard Slifko) Gacsko; cherished grandmother of Nicole (Tyler) Gustaveson, Gabriel (Jessica) Gacsko and Nina (Mark Muir) Gacsko; adoring great grandma of Isabelle, Annalise, Oaklin and Elara; dearest sister of Robert (Gail Drlich) Jancich and the late Greg (Helen) Jancich; dear sister-in-law of the late Ronald (late Janet) Gacsko and the late John (late Rosemary) Gacsko; lifelong friend of Pauline (late John) Vetroczky, Jeff and Jack Vetroczky; proud Godmother of Paula Vetroczky Chorich; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; canine companion, “Winston”.

 

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023, 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at Sacred Heart Church, Whiting, with the Rev. Jay Nuthulapati, officiating; interment, St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00pm. Parish Wake Service at the funeral home on Wednesday at 6:00p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on-line at www.baranfh.com.

 

Rose Gacsko was born on March 10, 1931 in Whiting, Indiana to Gabriel and Danica (Butkovich) Jancich. A lifelong resident, she was a graduate of Whiting High School and was the Salutatorian of the Class of 1949. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Whiting, the Sacred Heart Rosary Society, the Croatian Fraternal Union, Br. 57 and the Whiting FOP Lodge 68 Auxilliary. Rose was a retiree of the Amoco Oil (BP) Whiting Refinery with a service of 33 years and was a member of the Amoco Oil Annuitants Club. Proud of her Croatian Heritage and an excellent cook and baker, Rose was known for her pineapple upside down cake, nut rolls and chicken paprikash. She enjoyed working word find puzzles, sewing, gardening and watching game shows. Rose was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandma. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
