Rose (Giorgio) Arendas

Rose Arendas, (nee Giorgio) 97 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 23, 2025 at the Hammond-Whiting Care Center. Beloved wife of the late Steve Arendas who passed away January 10, 2000; loving mother of Steve (Susan), James (Annette) and the late Daniel; cherished grandmother of Stephen (Jessica), Melissa (Adam) Raabe, Angela, Anthony (Jamie), Andrew and Nathan; adoring great grandma of Siena, Aria, Stephen Braxton and Shoshanna; nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Agnes Kish and two brothers, Eugene and Joseph Giorgio.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 7, 2025 at 11:00am at St. Mary’s Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church, 2011 Clark St., Whiting, with the Rev. Andrew Summerson, officiating; interment, St. Nicholas Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the church on Monday morning from 9:00am to time of services. Rose Arendas was born on May 26, 1928 to Pepino and Maria (Alfini) Giorgio in East Chicago, IN. A lifelong resident of the Calumet Region, she was a graduate of East Chicago Roosevelt High School, Class of 1947. Rose was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church, Whiting, where she had served as secretary of the St. Mary Altar, Rosary and Sacred Heart Societies, president and secretary of the St. Mary P.T.O. and was a Sunday School teacher for over 20 years. She was a member of the American Legion, Whiting Post 80 Women’s Auxiliary, was an avid reader and loved a lively banter with her friends.
