Roberto Rodriguez, 49 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 5, 2021 at the University of Chicago Medical Center. He is survived by his beloved wife of 17 years, Tracy (nee Bayless); loving father of Juliana and Leah Rodriguez, Jacob Pick and Kaitlyn (fiancée, Devin Day) Pick; adoring grandpa of Allison and Alania; cherished son of Maria (Garcia) Rodriguez and the late Ricardo A. “Professor” Rodriguez; dearest brother, Elva (John) Sotello, Ricardo (April) Rodriguez, Patricia (Leo) Martinez and the late Pablo Rodriguez; cherished uncle of Ambria and Anthony Sotello, Leonardo, Jr. and Liliana Martinez, Elizabeth and Ricardo, Jr. Rodriguez, Emily and Dominick Greenwald; many dear aunts, uncles, cousins and lifelong friends that are considered family.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, with a Mass of Christian Burial being offered at 10:00am at St. Maria Goretti Church, 500 Northgate Dr., Dyer, with the Rev. Charles W. Niblick, officiating; interment, Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Crown Point; visitation at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00pm. The BP Fire Department will present its "Last Call" on Tuesday at 5:30pm. (Due to the current health situation a limitation of 25 people will be allowed in the funeral home at one time, face masks must be worn, social distancing is expected and temperatures will be taken.) Roberto Rodriguez was born on October 26, 1971 and was a lifelong resident of Whiting. He was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1990 and had attended Vincennes University, Vincennes, IN. A very talented athlete, Roberto had played all sports in high school. He was the Northwest Indiana Times Athlete of the Year in 1990 and was a devout Chicago Cubs fan. He was an employee of the BP Whiting Business Unit, serving on the BP Fire Dept and was a member of USW Local 7-1. Devoted to his family, Roberto enjoyed family gatherings and grilling in the back yard. He was the life of the party and always left everyone in tears from laughing so hard. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
