Robert J. Hanchar, 68 of Griffith passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018 at his residence. He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Audrey (nee Buksar); loving father of Carrie Hanchar, Brett (Mallorie) Hanchar and Allison (Jason) Lomeli; adoring grandpa of Kaylee; cherished brother of Timothy (Margie) Hanchar, Mark (Kathy) Hanchar and Mary Beth (Garry) Schultz; dear brother-in-law of Janice (late Bob) Gillis, Karen (John) Kertis and Nancy (John) Kricfalusi; proud uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to meet with the family on Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00pm at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting. Private funeral services with Military Honors will take place, interment, St. John Cemetery, Hammond.

Robert Hanchar was born on June 13, 1949 to John and Elizabeth (Troksa) Hanchar and was a lifelong resident of the Calumet Region. He was a US Army Veteran of the Viet Nam Conflict and was a retired machinist from American Chemical. A true outdoorsman, Robert loved to hunt and fish and was a member of the NRA. He was an excellent craftsman and a real “Mr. Fixit”. He loved working around his home and enjoyed cooking and gardening. Devoted to his family, Robert will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Please omit flowers.
