Richard J. Laurinec, 79 of Avilla, Indiana, formally of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Monday March 30, 2026, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, surrounded by his family. Richard was preceded in death by his loving parents Nicolas and Emily (nee Krstenansky), and sister Helen (Ronald) Ibsen.
Richard was married to Susan (nee Liscinsky) for 55 wonderful years. Together they raised a loving family and created countless memories, including their cherished annual trips to Brown County. Richard’s love for motor racing, particularly the Indy 500, was well known. He greatly enjoyed racing his stockcar at the Chicagoland Speedway, Joliet, with his buddies. A man of simple pleasures, Richard enjoyed quiet moments on his front porch with a good cigar. He was also dedicated to his community serving several years, some as president, with the Whiting Lions Club.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife Susan; loving father of Bryan (Sue) Laurinec of Naperville, IL, Christopher (Stephanie) Laurinec of Ypsilanti, MI, Stacey (David) Poage of Kendalliville, IN, and Andrew (fiancée, Jennifer Martin) Laurinec of Crown Point, IN; cherished grandfather to Amanda, Paige, Robin and Linsey (fiancée, Mick Chaalan) Laurinec, Alyssa (RJ) Mewton, Collin and Grant Double; dear brother-in-law of Michael (Camille) Liscinsky; proud uncle to many nieces and nephews. Private family services will be held at a later date, there was no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lions Club International at 300 W. 22nd Street, Oak Brook, IL 60523 or lionsclub.org
