Richard Gonzales, Sr., 66 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 7, 2023 following a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his most cherished family at his residence. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 23 years, Julie (nee Kwiatkowski); loving father of Amy Gonzales, Richard (Laura Patino) Gonzales, Jr., Austin Mendez, Joseph (Jessica) Garcia, Michelle (Ryan) McCloskey and Katie (Jerome Dale) Cooper; adoring grandfather to fifteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren; beloved son of Cecilia Cardenas Gonzales and the late Edward Gonzales; dearest brother of Edward (Mary Jo), Rudy, Henry (Debbie) and John Gonzales and Elizabeth (Mike) Eddings; dear brother-in-law of Christine (Marshall) List and Gerrie (Dave) Witt; proud uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May11, 2023 at 8:00pm at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting with the Rev. Timothy McFarland, C.PP.S. of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, officiating, cremation to follow; visitation at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00p.m. to time of services. Richard Gonzales was born on May 22, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois and was a graduate of Bowen High School, Class of 1974. He was a resident of Whiting for the past 23 years and was a retiree of the PepsiCola Bottling Co., Chicago with a service of 27 years. Richard loved to go fishing, spending time with his canine companions and riding his motorcycle. Devoted to his family, he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
