Raymond Anthony Zajac, 63 of Schererville, Indiana passed away on Friday, June 11, 2021 at University of Chicago Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Annette (Howaniec) Zajac. He is survived by his sister Georgeanne (Ronald) Bartelmann, former wife Margaret Zajac, former mother-in-law Virginia O’Boy, godmother Helen Magro, former sister-in-law Georgene (Michael) Hake, nieces, great nephews, and many cousins.
A Celebration of Life for Raymond will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 12 noon at Holy Cross Cemetery, 801 Michigan City Road, Calumet City, IL with Br. James Ballman, C.PP.S., officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Whiting “Gimmer Shelter” (for pets), P.O. Box 591, Whiting, Indiana 46394, would be appreciated.
Ray Zajac was born on April 6, 1958 in Hammond, Indiana. He was raised and lived in Hegewisch until 1986. He was a member of St. Columba Church, Chicago (Hegewisch). A welder by trade, member of local 697 electrical union, and a former employee of Magnetech for 30 years. Past member of CYC yacht club. Ray was very talented. He was mechanically inclined and excelled at whatever he set his sights on. He loved fast cars and motorcycles. He particularly loved hot rods and his 72 Monte Carlo. He enjoyed watching Nascar, and hunting pheasant, quail and fishing in his spare time. He also loved Scuba diving in Florida and Mexico, woodworking, model making and loved building clocks. Most of all he was a great animal lover. He especially loved his dogs Brodie and Zoey and his cats. Ray loved his family and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
