Peter M. Zavala

Peter M. Zavala, 70 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at the Community Hospital, Munster. He is survived by his beloved life companion of 26 years, Julie Macak Guillen; loving father of Kathryn Zavala; special friend of Debra Zavala; dear brother of Patricia (late Dan) Czubernat and Cynthia (Glen) Diedrich; nieces and nephews and his cherished canine companions, “Bailey” and “Kaner”.

Visitation for Peter will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at the Baran Funeral, Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting from 2:00p.m. to time of services at 5:00p.m, with the Rev. James Dvorscak, officiating, cremation to follow. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on-line at www.baranfh.com.

Peter Zavala was born on October 11, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois to Daniel and Estelle (Graczyk) Zavala. He was a graduate of Bowen High School, Class of 1972 and had been a resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community for the past 25 years. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, and the American Slovak Club, Whiting. He enjoyed golfing and had participated in in several bowling leagues at Olympia Lanes, Hammond. He was a retiree of Diamond Coring with a service of 20 years. An avid sports fan, please honor Pete by wearing your favorite team jersey to the visitation. Peter Zavala was the most selfless and caring person, with the biggest heart. He would care for and feed everyone and every animal he came in contact with. Devoted to his family, he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
