Peter Kahanik

Peter Kahanik, 84 of Whiting, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at his residence. He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Anna (nee Polakova); dear father of Peter Mark Kahanik. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Maria Kahanik, his brother, Joseph Kahanik and his aunt and uncle Johanna and Peter Jurcak with whom he made his home when he immigrated from Slovakia.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 10:300am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S. officiating; private burial at St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 9:00am to time of services. Peter Kahanik was born on July 10, 1938 in Dlha nad Oravou, Orava, Slovakia and immigrated to Whiting in 1968. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, the Slovak Catholic Sokol, Wreath 81 and the American Slovak Club. He was a retiree of the American Maize Products Co. (Cargill), Hammond, with a service of 25 years. Peter enjoyed traveling to Europe, visiting the religious sights of Rome, Fatima and Lourdes and was an avid photographer and reader. Devoted to his family, Peter will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1849 Lincoln Ave., Whiting, IN 46394, would be appreciated.
