Paul Banik, Jr. Obituary

Paul J. Banik, Jr., 77 of Whiting, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at his residence. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Marsha (nee Pasyk); loving father of Stacy Reaney; adoring grandfather of Owen Reaney; dearest brother of Jerome (Lois) Banik, Donna Baggett, Charles Banik and Michael (Pati) Banik; dear brother-in-law of David (Dawn) Pasyk and Mark (Karen) Pasyk; many cherished nieces and nephews; and lifelong friends, Al and Ruth Ann Renda.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 9:00am to 11:00am, followed by funeral services at 11:00am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.P.P.S, officiating. Paul Banik was born on July 3, 1947 to Paul and Elizabeth (Chermak) Banik and was a lifelong resident of the Calumet Region. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, where he was a member of the former Holy Name Society (past president) and participated in the Holy Name Bowling League for many years. He was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Class of 1965 and went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business and a Masters Degree in Marketing from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. He was a US Marine Corps Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, attaining the rank of corporal and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and was associated with Lima 3/9, Vietnam Marine Corps Veterans. Paul taught at Bishop Noll Institute, Hammond, St. Thomas More School, Munster and enjoyed coaching cross country, track and basketball at St. John School, Whiting. He was a retiree of the United States Postal Service with over 25 years of service. Devoted to his family, Paul will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Capital Campaign at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1849 Lincoln Ave., Whiting, IN 46394, would be appreciated.
