Patricia (Moriarity) Augustyn was born on December 11, 1933, in Roby, Indiana, to Julia (Popelas) Moriarity of Whiting, Indiana, she lived her entire life in the home built by her grandparents. When her mother passed, she was raised by her grandmother (Elizabeth) and three Uncles, George, Benny and Eddie Popelas.  Through the years when she was out on her front porch someone would always stop for a chat. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting where she was the Cub Scout Troop Leader of Pack 204 during the 1960’s. Patricia loved to bake and was one of the best as recipes were not doubled but quadrupled for holidays and parties. She was best known for her blueberry slices which to this day no one can replicate. She loved the campfires, mountains, wildlife, bears and family vacations. Camping and traveling knew no boundaries, coast to coast, all points in between to all 50 states.  She considered herself a bear whisperer and would often talk about looking for bears on their trips. Patricia was married to a retired bricklayer with 43 years of service at Youngstown/LTV Steel, East Chicago, and 61 years in Bricklayers Local #4. They continued friendships with fellow bricklayers and spouses who were always considered a part of our family. What she loved most of all and who she had desperately missed for the past 11 years was her husband, Stanley. Best known as Granny, she was a fierce protector of her family and the hub we all connected to and relied on. Pat and Stanley loved watching their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren participate in school programs and in their sporting events: football, basketball, wrestling, volleyball, swimming, baseball, softball, soccer, and tennis. Pat was always happiest when she had a child on her lap. She loved her family and was the best wife, mom, and granny ever. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Hospice of the Calumet Area or The American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
