Olga Susan Dudas. 87 of Downers Grove, IL, formerly of Whiting, passed away Monday, July 11, 2022. She was the beloved daughter of the late Mary and Michael Dudas and was preceded in death by her sisters, Leona (Jack) Manata and Rose Dudas; cherished aunt of Lisa Manata, Susan Martinez, Michelle (Joseph) Reynolds and Michael (Karen) Manata; dearest great aunt of Jack (Andy) Martinez, Jake Reynolds, Vincent Manata, Sandra Martinez, Stacy Reynolds, Dana Reynolds and Gia Manata.
Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at 11:00am at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1801 Atchison Avenue, Whiting, Indiana with the Rev. Kevin Bergmann, officiating; interment of cremains to follow at Concordia Cemetery, Hammond, Indiana; visitation at the church on Thursday morning from 10:30am to time of service. Susan Dudas was an associate professor emerita of the College of Nursing at the University of Illinois, Chicago (UIC). She was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1952, graduated from the Lutheran Deaconess School of Nursing, Chicago and received her degrees from Indiana University. She taught at several colleges and was a consultant for the Division of Nursing of USPHS/DHEW, Bethesda, Maryland, Project Hope, Trujilo, Peru and had worked for the Bureau of Health Manpower at the regional office, Chicago. She was inducted as a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN), Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Pi Lamda Theta and the Golden Key Society. Susan co-authored two editions of Medical Surgical Nursing textbooks and published many articles and chapters in other books and journals. She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Whiting and the Deborah Guild. She volunteered at the Art Institute of Chicago and was an active member of the Whiting High School Class of 1952 Reunion Committee. An avid reader, she loved art, music and the opera. She loved to travel and had traveled extensively around the world.
