Olga Jean (Lofay) Becich

Olga Jean Becich, (nee Lofay) 94 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at the Hammond-Whiting Care Center. She was the beloved wife of the late William George Becich who passed away June 10, 2021; loving mother of William L. Becich; cherished sister of the late Marjorie Paylo, Marie Chapek, John Lofay and Leo Lofay; many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 119th Street and Lincoln Avenue, Whiting, with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; interment to follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the church on Tuesday morning from 9:00am to time of services. Olga Jean Becich was born on January 10, 1928 in Whiting, Indiana to Michael and Maria (Krausky) Lofay. She was a lifelong resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community and a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Class of 1946 and the American Conservatory of Music, Chicago. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting and had participated with the St. John Adult Choir and the Marian Theatre Guild. Olga loved music and loved to sing, she had a beautiful soprano voice. She played the piano and was a certified piano instructor, giving piano lessons for many years. She was a great animal lover and was a retiree of the Standard Oil (BP) Whiting Refinery. Devoted to her family, Olga will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the St. John Steeple Restoration Fund, would be appreciated.
