Michael E. Rochowiak, 77 of Merrillville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at the Methodist Hospital, Southlake Campus. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Frances (nee Ambrose), who was his college sweetheart; loving father of Amy (Mark Williams) and Robert (Lola); cherished grandpa of Violet, Albin and Joseph; dearest brother of Christine (late Joseph) Brown and the late Patricia Walker; many dear nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services were held on Friday, June 21, 2024 at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting, with the Rev. Gregory Holicky, officiating; interment followed at St. John-St. Joseph Cemetery, Hammond. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on-line at www.baranfh.com.
Michael Rochowiak was born on June 14, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois to Edward and Genevieve Rochowiak. He was a graduate of Mt. Carmel High School, Chicago, Class of 1965 and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminology from the University of Illinois, Class of 1969. A former ATF Agent, Michael retired as a special agent/investigator for the US Department of Defense in 2007. He was a member of Our Lady of Consolation Church, Merrillville where he was a senior server for funeral liturgies. A longtime resident of Dolton, Ill., he had managed and coached for the Dolton/Riverdale Little League and enjoyed model railroading. He enjoyed keeping in touch with his roots by attending monthly luncheons with his friends from Hegewisch. A devoted husband, dad and grandpa, Michael will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1849 Lincoln Ave., Whiting, IN 46394 or the American Cancer Society, would be appreciated.
