Obituary

Mary Guiden (nee Sichak) 96 of Whiting, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at the Crown Point Christian Village. She was the beloved wife of the late Fr. Deacon Richard Guiden who passed away January 21, 2011. Loving mother of Richard (Carrie), Maria (Don) Salczynski, David (Tracy), Diane (John) Burrell, Mary Ann (Mark) Medved, Mary Katherine and the late Anne Marie Heusinkveld; cherished grandmother of Carly (Pat) Eland, Aaron (Sarah) Salczynski, Paige (Thibault Vieilledent) Guiden Vieilledent, late Christopher Burrell, Katherine, Elizabeth and Nicholas (fiancée, Maddie Edwards) Burrell, Brittany (Nick) Gillund, Christopher, Luke and Laura Jarman and Isabella Heusinkveld; adoring great grandma of Maverick and Charlotte Gillund and Jordan Eland; dearest sister-in-law of John (late Ginny) Guiden, Ray Guiden and Pat (late Paul) Guiden; dear aunt of many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by six siblings, John, William, George, Stephen and Peter Sichak and Ann Dwan.

 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 10:00am at St. Mary’s Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church, 2011 Clark St., Whiting, with the Rev. Andrew Summerson, officiating; interment to follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Hessville; visitation at the Baran Funeral Home on Friday from 3:00 to 7:00pm and at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00am to time of services. Parastas Service at the funeral home on Friday at 3:30pm. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on-line at www.baranfh.com.

 

Mary Guiden was born on September 11, 1926 to Vasil and Katarina Sichak in Chicago, Illinois and was a graduate of Bowen High School, Class of 1944. A devoted member of St. Mary’s Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church, Whiting, the St. Mary Altar, Rosary and Sacred Heart Society and the Greek Catholic Union. She was a retiree of the Inland Steel Co., East Chicago, with a service of 22 years and was a volunteer at the Hammond-Whiting Care Center. Mary loved to read, create ceramics and was an excellent cook and baker. Devoted to her family, Mary will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
