Mary Danko Obituary

Mary Ann Danko (nee Bednar) 82 of Whiting passed away Saturday, June 13, 2020 at Symphony of Crown Point. She is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Richard P. Danko; loving mother of Christine Danko, Michael (Lynn) Danko, Joanne (John) Gorski and Mary Lynn (Joseph) Hasik; cherished grandmother of Brittany (Kiley) Jarrett, Sarah Hasik, Jacob Hasik and Thomas Gorski; dearest sister of Anna May (late Joseph) Gerba, Pauline Bednar, Paul Bednar, Barbara (Joseph) Yurkanin, and the late George Bednar and Edward Bednar ; dear aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services were held on Friday, June 19, 2020; 10:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial was offered at 11:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting with the Rev. Stanley J. Dominik, officiating; interment followed at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on-line at www.baranfh.com.

Mary Ann Danko was born on August 3, 1937 to Edward and Anna (Seman) Bednar. She was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1955 and was a lifelong resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association and the former St. Anne Sodality of the Immaculate Conception Church, Whiting. Mary Ann was a licensed insurance agent working in the insurance industry for many years, retiring from Kozlowski & Associates, Highland. She was the owner and operator of the “Hook & Needle Nook” Craft Store and loved quilting and sewing, was an avid bowler, enjoyed reading, gardening and her “Westerns”. A devoted wife, mother and grandma, Mary Ann will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
