Maria A. Herrera, 85 of Chicago, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Edward-Elmhurst Health, Naperville, IL. Beloved mother of Leticia M. (Shahram Irani) Herrera, Jaime J. (Christine) Herrera and Gabriel H. “Gabe” (Mary) Herrera; loving grandmother of six; cherished great grandma of four. Preceded in death by her former spouse, Gabriel H. Herrera, Sr. on December 28, 2021.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at 10:00am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; cremation to follow; visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 9:00 to time of services. Maria Antonia Herrera was born on January 10, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois to Pedro and Soledad (Chole) Blanco and was a lifelong resident of the South Deering Community. She was a graduate of Aquinas Dominican High School, Class of 1956. She and her former spouse were the owners of Herrera's Amoco & Towing at 103rd & Torrence Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. Maria enjoyed outings with close friends, with whom she kept in touch with over the years. She loved watching old westerns, especially John Wayne movies along with many classics of the silver screen. She was a remarkable woman and will sadly be missed by all who loved and knew her.
