Margaret Vasilak (nee Karasinsky) 95 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Vasilak who passed away November 18, 1980; loving mother of Robert (Joan) Vasilak, Daniel (Antoinette) Vasilak and Carol Vasilak Dubrovin; cherished grandmother of Neal (Emma) Vasilak, Karen Vasilak, Casey (Cole) Hruskovich, Katelyn and Kevin Dubrovin; adoring great grandma of Chase Roger Hruskovich; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at 10:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S. officiating; interment, Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville; visitation at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 9:00am to time of services. Margaret Vasilak was born on May 24, 1929 in Zborov, Slovakia to John and Mary Karasinsky. the youngest of twelve children. She had been a resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community since 1950 and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, the St. John Rosary Society and the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Assoc., BR. 452. An excellent cook and baker, Margaret was a retiree of the School City of Hammond (George Rogers Clark High School Cafeteria) with a service of 28 years. Devoted to her family, she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. (219) 659-4400.
