Luz Maria Corona (nee Alonzo) 75 of Whiting, formerly of South Chicago, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at Community Hospital, Munster. Loving mother of Araceli (Alberto Vazquez) Corona and Jose de Jesus Corona; adoring grandma of Sofia Amélie Vazquez; beloved daughter of Ventura Sandoval Alonzo and the late Emilio Alonzo; cherished sister of Aurelia (Rosario) Sandoval, Victoria (Salvador) Estrada, late Maria de Los Angeles (Merced) Serna, Dr. Roberto (Leticia) Alonso, Adela (Saul) Lopez, Alicia (Jose de Jesus) Cornejo, Guadalupe Alonzo, Arturo (Mercedes) Alonzo and Christina Alonzo; dear aunt to many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 10:00am at Sacred Heart Church, 2864 E. 96th Street, Chicago, IL, with the Rev. Stephen Bedenikovic, O.F.M., officiating; interment to follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond. Luz Maria Corona was born on June 28, 1948 in Teocaltiche, Jalisco, México and was a longtime resident of the Calumet Region. She was a former employee at the YMCA and Bowen High School, Chicago with a service of 15 years. She loved to travel and enjoyed, music, dancing, flowers and sweets. Devoted to her family, Luz Maria will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
