Lorraine M. Demkovich Owens, (nee Kozak) 95, of Sistersville, West Virginia, formerly of Whiting, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2022 at Sistersville Center. Beloved wife of the late Frank J. Demkovich and late Roy G. Owens. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Ethel O’Drobinak and brothers, George Kozak and Gerald Kozak. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Marilyn Kozak and many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom have been a delightful part of her life.
A Memorial Mass will be offered on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 119th Street and Lincoln Avenue, Whiting, Indiana 46394 with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; visitation at the church from 9:00am to time of services; interment of cremains to follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond. Born on September 20, 1926, in Whiting, Indiana, to George B. and Mary Kaminsky Kozak, Lorraine attended St. John the Baptist Catholic School and graduated from George Rogers Clark High, Class of 1944. She was an employee of Mobay Chemical Company and later of Valley Steel, Davenport, West Virginia, which was owned by her husband Frank Demkovich. Affectionately known as “Mother Superior,” Lorraine was a devoted and very active member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Sistersville, WV, where she was Director of CCD, a member of the Rosary Guild, served on the Teens Encounter Christ teams, and was always quick to tell anyone that her proudest accomplishment was her participation in Cursillo retreats. She was active in the Lilac Twig of Sistersville General Hospital and the Sistersville Oil and Gas Festival serving as chairman of the Craft Exhibits for many years. She was a member of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association, BR. 81. Devoted to her family, Lorraine will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
