Lawrence W. Slazyk, 91 of Whiting, formerly of the East Side of Chicago passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, February 27, 2025 following a courageous battle with dementia. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years Shirley (nee Grzelak); beloved father of Larry Slazyk, the late Edward Slazyk, and Valerie (Steven) Piaseczny; grandpa’s pride and joy - Brittany (Spencer) Lemmons and Edward Piaseczny; his “furry kids”, Holly and Ginger; dear uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Walter Slazyk and sister, Virginia Stincic.
Lawrence Slazyk was born on June 12, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois to Walter and Anne Slazyk. He was a graduate of Chicago Vocational High School and was a US Airforce Veteran of the Korean Conflict, 19th Bomron (sac) Staff Sergeant. He received the National Defense Service medal and Good Conduct medal. He was a retiree of the Lever Brothers Company, Hammond, with a service of 42 years and was a member of the Lever Brothers 25 year Club. Lawrence’s “Happy Place” was Wisconsin on the lake. A true outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, boating and he loved to cut down trees. Devoted to his family, Lawrence will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. A heartfelt “Thank You” to everyone who has been there for us.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, 10:00am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting with the Rev. James Dvorscak, officiating; interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City; visitation at the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 to 8:00pm; expressions of sympathy may be placed on-line at www.baranfh.com.
