Katherine Novotney Obituary

Katherine M. “Kay” Novotney (nee Hrovatich), age 100, passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday, September 11, 2022. She was the beloved wife of the late Michael L. Novotney who passed away October 25, 1984; loving mother of Michael (Sue) Novotney, Jeanine (Douglas) Jones and the late Robert (Alvina) Novotney; cherished grandmother of Mike, Chris and Dave Novotney, Matt, Ryan and Jessica Novotney and Carissa and Justus Jones; proud great grandma of Makayla, Amelia, Ellie, Leah, Audie and Maddie; many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Frances Halenz, Albina Hrovatich and Mary Rinkus and two brothers, Frank Hrovatich and Matt Hrovatich.

 

Graveside services of cremated remains will be held at a future date at St. John Cemetery, West Frankfort, Illinois. There was no visitation. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th Street, Whiting. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on-line at www.baranfh.com.

 

Kay Novotney was born on February 18, 1922 in Johnston City, Illinois to Matt and Jennie Hrovatich. A longtime resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community, Kay was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish. She loved to cook and bake and was a former cook at the St. John School Cafeteria with over 20 years of service and had been a cook for the St. John Panel Room and the St. John Rectory.

Devoted to her family, Kay will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the St. John Steeple Restoration Fund, c/o St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1849 Lincoln Avenue, Whiting Indiana 46394, would be appreciated.
