Julia M. Conover (nee Tornai) 79 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at her residence. She is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Duane W. Conover; loving mother of Deborah (late Ken) Stone, William Conover, Mary (Jerry) Plambeck, Margaret (Steve) Massari and Olivia (David Black) Rhodehamel; cherished grandmother of Elizabeth, Audrey, Samuel, Natalie, Nicholas and Noelle; special family members, Denice and Bill Styck and their children, Madison, William, Joseph, Michael and Andrew; dearest sister of Paul Tornai and the late Bob (Francine) Tornai and late Louis (late Nancy) Tornai; dear aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th Street, Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at Sacred Heart Church, Whiting, with the Rev. Jay Nuthulapati, officiating; interment, St. Joseph Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00pm. Members of the parish will offer prayers at the funeral home on Friday at 6:30pm. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on-line at www.baranfh.com.
Julia Conover was born on January 13, 1945 to Louis and Elizabeth (Czonka) Tornai and was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1963. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Whiting and was a retired legal secretary. She was a Girl Scout leader, community volunteer, had participated in shows at the Marian Theatre Guild, was very patriotic and loved to read. She was a history buff and enjoyed exploring the library. Devoted to her family, Julia will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Heart Association, would be appreciated.
