Juan Arciniega, 80 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, September 19, 2023. Cherished step-father of Darlene (Michael) Korman; adoring grandpa of Brian (Jessica), Michael (Kathy), Adam (Gloria) and Nicholas (Kelsey); dearest great grandpa of Ben; beloved special friend of Lisa Burke; dear brother of late David, Chelo (late Jose) Ozuna, late Jose (late Gloria, late Luz), Pete (Isabel), Lydia Mendoza, Rose McGee and Philip (late Kellie); proud uncle of many nieces and nephews; special uncle of Anthony and Sarah Arciniega, who cared for him in their home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 11:00am at Sacred Heart Church, 118th St. and LaPorte Ave., Whiting, with the Rev. Jay Nuthulapati, officiating. Visitation at the church on Friday morning from 10:00am to time of services. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting. Juan Arciniega was born on November 2, 1942 in Robstown, Texas to Juan and Louisa (Rodriguez) Arciniega. A longtime resident of the Calumet Region, he was a US Marine Corps Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict and was a retiree of US Gypsum, East Chicago with a service of 25 years. Juan enjoyed listening to music, watching westerns, working out, running races and mentored people trying to stay sober. He was especially close to his siblings and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
