Joyce A. Kane

Joyce A. Kane, 78 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 18, 2023 at the VNA of Northwest Indiana Hospice Center, Valparaiso. Loving mother of Mark Costica; adoring grandma of Luke and Joshua Costica; cherished sister of Don (Dawna) Kane, Angela Hopper and the late Alice Martin, William Chado and Mary Beth Kelly; dear aunt to many nieces and nephews; her canine companion, “Honey” and feline companion, “Clooney”.

Visitation will be on Friday, August 25, 2023, from 4:00 to 8:00pm at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th Street, Whiting and on Saturday morning, August 26, 2023 from 9:00am to time of Liturgy at 10:00am at St. Mary’s Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church, 2011 Clark Street, Whiting, with the Rev. Andrew Summerson, officiating; interment to follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery, Hammond: Parastas Service at the funeral home on Friday at 7:00pm. Joyce Kane was born on February 1, 1945 in East Chicago, Indiana. She was a lifelong resident of the Calumet Region and a graduate of Hammond High School. She was a member of the former St. Basil Byzantine Catholic Church, East Chicago and St. Mary’s Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church, Whiting, where she participated with the St. Mary Altar, Rosary and Sacred Heart Societies and “Lunch with Friends”. She was a retiree of the Inland Steel Company, East Chicago, with over 20 years of service, was a member of the USW Local 1010 and was a great animal lover. Devoted to her family, Joyce will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Humane Indiana, Munster or St. Mary’s Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church, Whiting, would be appreciated.
