Joseph Francis Zrnchik, 87 of Whiting passed away peacefully on Monday evening, August 19, 2024 surrounded by his most cherished family at his residence. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Dorthea (nee Christensen); loving father of Janet (Rigoberto) Lemus, Joseph (Paula) Zrnchik and Veronica Zrnchik; cherished grandfather of Nicole (Louis Winn) Lemus, Cali Lemus, Matthew and Rebecca Zrnchik, Vincent, Max and Alex Smaluk and the late Andrew Zrnchik; adoring great grandpa of Louis and Joshua Winn and Jane Zrnchik; dearest brother of William (Lisa) Zrnchik and the late Ann Barkowski; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 10:00am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th Street, Whiting with the Rev. Theodore Mens, officiating; cremation to follow; visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00pm. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on-line at www.baranfh.com.
Joseph Francis Zrnchik was born on April 30, 1937 in Whiting, Indiana to Joseph and Helen (Mistarz) Zrnchik. He was a lifelong resident, was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1955 and went on to graduate from barber college. He was a US Navy Veteran and was a member of the American Legion, Whiting Post 80 (memorial service, Friday at 6:00pm). He was a retiree of the Inland Steel Co. (Cleveland Cliffs), East Chicago, with a service of 35 years. He was a member of the Inland Steel 25year Club and the USW Local 1010. An avid fisherman, Joe was a member of the Whiting-Robertsdale Boat Club. He enjoyed boating and bowling, had raced “Cigarette Boats” and had participated with the Inland Steel Bowling League for many years. He enjoyed working on and building computers. Devoted to his family, Joseph will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society, would be appreciated.
