Joseph Szafranski Obituary

Joseph A. “Joey” Szafranski, 72 of Batavia, Ohio, formerly of Whiting, passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday, February 23, 2026 at Sycamore Vista Group Home, Batavia, Ohio. He was the beloved son of the late Harry and Mary (Paunicka) Szafranski; cherished brother of Elaine (Joe) Macaluso, late Harry (Patty) Szafranski and Mary Ann Szafranski; dear uncle of Christopher (Suzanne) Macaluso, Zachary Macaluso and Gabriel Macaluso, great uncle of Grace, Caroline, Isaac and Logan Macaluso; many cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, with a Mass of Christian Burial being offered at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 119th Street and Lincoln Avenue, Whiting, with the Rev. Charles W. Niblick, officiating; interment to follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the church on Tuesday morning from 9:00am to time of services. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th Street, Whiting, Indiana. Expressions of sympathy may be shared on-line at www.baranfh.com.

Joey was born on February 2, 1954 and was a longtime resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community. He participated with the Lake County Arc-Bridges Workshop for many years and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting.
