John W. "Jack" Shade

John W. “Jack” Shade, 77 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Vivian (nee Kertis); loving father of Eric (Meghan Kosiba) Shade and Susan Shade; cherished grandpa of Cullen (Allison Friedman) Shade and Logan (Rose Mikhail) Shade; dearest brother of Sandy (Jim) Jenkins and Stephen Shelton; nieces and nephews.

A memorial visitation will be held at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th Street, Whiting, IN on Friday, January 31, 2025 from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be placed online at www.baranfh.com.

Jack Shade was born on April 20, 1947 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania and was a longtime resident of Whiting. He was a retiree of US Steel with a service of 36 years and the School City of Whiting with a service of 9 years. Jack loved all genres of music. He was an excellent guitarist and was a member of the band, “Frog Head Bros.”. Jack was a “Jack of all trades” and enjoyed fishing, golfing, Whiting High School football games and time spent with family and friends. Devoted to his family, Jack will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Whiting High School Marching Band, 1751 Oliver Street, Whiting, IN 46394, would be appreciated.
