John P. Peirce, 89 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at his residence. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Desa; loving father of Marc (Jacqueline) Peirce and John Peirce; cherished grandfather of Hannah (Tony) Franchetti, Jordan (Cody) Kozuch, Cameron, Evan, Jack and Joe Peirce; adoring great grandpa of Lucas and Noah Franchetti; dearest brother-in-law of Nada (late Nick) Tomasic; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marcus Petkovich and Caroline Petkovich Pavlovich, step-father Andrew Pavlovich two brothers, Marcus Petkovich and Charles Parker and infant son Nicholas.
Private funeral services were held on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at 10:00am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting, with the Rev Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; interment, St. John Cemetery, Hammond. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on-line at www.baranfh.com.
John Peirce was born on March 13, 1935 and was a lifelong resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community. He was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, Class of 1953 and had served in the US Army Reserve. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting and the Croatian Fraternal Union, Branch 805. John had spent his working career in the retail sector. Working for Carson, Pirie Scott & Co. in downtown Chicago and retired as the owner and operator of Burton’s Mens Wear in downtown Whiting for 20 years. He loved sports and was an avid Chicago Bears, Cubs and Notre Dame fan and attended all activities of his grandchildren. Devoted to his family, John will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the St. John Church Capital Campaign, 1849 Lincoln Ave., Whiting, IN 46394, would be appreciated.
