John Kokenis

John Kokenis, 78 of Schererville, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2024 at the Community Hospital, Munster. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Rosemary (nee Chandik); dearest brother of James (Ruby) Kokenis and the late Gene (Georgia) Kokenis; cherished uncle of Louis (Maggie) Kokenis, Kevin (Sierra) Kokenis, Caroline (Joe) Carollo, Louis Kokenis, Jeannine (Burt) Ramirez, Gerri (Jeff) Zygowicz, Michael (Jill) Nastav, Katie (Michael) Bajda, Elliott (Kaylyn) Bajda and the late Greg (Carrie) Kokenis; adoring uncle to many great nieces and nephews; dear nephew of Ann (late James) Greven; lifelong friend, Jim (Shirley) Carnahan

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024 with a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. Maria Goretti Church, 500 Northgate Drive, Dyer, Indiana, with the Rev. Leonardo J. Gajardo, officiating; interment, Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville; visitation at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00am to time of services. John Kokenis was born on September 22, 1946 to Louis and Mary (Greven) Kokenis. He was a lifelong resident of the Calumet Region and was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Class of 1965. He was a member of St. Maria Goretti Church, Dyer and he retired as a Senior Vice President of the Northern Trust Bank, Chicago, with a service of 35 years. John was an all Chicago sports team fan, especially the Bears and Cubs. He loved to travel, taking cruises, visiting countries and savoring wine and scotch around the world. A loving husband, John was devoted to his family and friends and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Maria Goretti Church, St. Maria Goretti Outreach (Food Pantry) or the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, would be appreciated.
