Jerry L. Blackwell, 82 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, January 1, 2025 surrounded by his most cherished family at Munster Med-Inn. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to the late Georgette M. “Georgie” Blackwell (nee Hauser); loving father of Dave (Laura) Blackwell and Lori (John) Bazelewski; cherished grandfather of Amanda (Nick) Serrato, Brianna (Brian) McGuire, Courtney (fiancé, Justin Pennington) Blackwell and Autumn Bazelewski; adoring great grandpa of Kannon and Skylynn McGuire and Baker Serrato; dear brother of Donna Hoff, Debbie Blackwell and the late Wanda Banther, Barbara Dockery, Phillip Blackwell, Carolyn Sue Harris, Donald Blackwell and infant, David Allen Blackwell; proud uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at 1:00pm at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting, with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, officiating; interment to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00am to time of services. Jerry Blackwell was born on April 21, 1942 to Boss and Reba (Moore) Blackwell in Athens, Tennessee and was a longtime resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting and the Sokol Club. He was a retired body man with 40 years of service to JJ Wright Oldsmobile and River Oaks Ford, both of Calumet City. Jerry loved classic cars and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. Devoted to his family, Jerry will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. The family wishes to thank the 4th floor team at the Munster Med-Inn for all the compassion and care shown to Jerry during his stay.
