Janice Elaine (Williams) Sejna

Janice Elaine (Williams) Sejna, age 87, of Whiting, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday March 1, 2025, in her happy place in Naples, Florida. She is survived by her five children: Denise (George Stoya), Whiting; Mark (Anne), Naperville, IL; Carol Vajda, Naples, Fl.; Richard (Rachel) Sejna, Valparaiso; and Ron Sejna, Glen Ellyn, IL. She was the proud and beloved grandma of Zack(Adam), Scott(Meghan), Emily(Brian) Nally, Hailey, Camden, Ethan and Owen. Last year she became great grandma to Olivia Sejna and Jack Nally. She is also survived by her lifelong cherished friends Doris Harbin and Selma O’Drobinak, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Delbert Williams and her brother Phillip Williams.

Janice was a graduate of Whiting High School Class of 1955. She was a sports enthusiast and the most avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. She attended every sporting event her children were involved in, often taking the whole neighborhood in her van. She was active in the Clark Adult Booster Club and local politics. She was an amazing cook and avid reader who loved spending time with her family and friends. She could often be found with Doris Harbin in the kitchen of the Roosevelt Club whenever there was a party. After she raised her children, Jan was employed by the Lake County Auditor and Hammond City Clerk. But most important to her was her role as a mother. Jan is lovingly remembered for her support, loyalty, and unconditional love. She had strength and generosity that extended beyond her immediate family to encompass a wide network of loved ones.  She was the role model mom, the epitome of a beloved grandma and great grandma, and the best friend upon whom you could always rely. Her passing will be mourned by all who knew her.
