Janet (Forauer) Brezene

Janet Brezene (nee Forauer), 79 of Whiting, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2024 at St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago. She was the beloved wife of the late Dario Brezene; loving mother of Paul Brezene; cherished sister of Nancy Koselke and Marianne (Joe) Matlon; many dear nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; devoted canine companion, “Sugar” and the late “Greta”, “Goldie”, “Heidi” and “Kipper”.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 10:00 am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30am at St. Adalbert Church, Whiting, with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; cremation to follow; visitation at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00pm.; parish wake service on Monday at 4:30pm. Janet Brezene was born on June 22, 1945 to John and Henrietta (Radloff) Forauer. A lifelong resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community, she was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Class of 1963. A devoted member of the Whiting-Robertsdale Catholic Community, she was currently a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She was a retiree of the Amoco Oil (BP) Whiting Refinery with over 40 years of service in human resources. Janet was a member of Amoco Oil Annuitants Club (serving as treasurer) and served on the board and was board secretary of the Whiting Refinery Federal Credit Union. She was a dedicated “Whitingite”, supporting many projects and events. Janet was a loyal White Sox and Bears fan, loved to read novels, share the Sunday crossword puzzles with her sister Nancy, and binge watch shows with son Paul. A devoted mother, sister and aunt, Janet will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Whiting “Gimme Shelter” (for pets), P.O. Box 591, Whiting, IN 46394, would be appreciated.
