James L. Wohrle, 76 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2026 at Park Place of St. John, St. John, IN. He was the beloved son of the late Louis and Marjorie (Kuzma) Wohrle; cherished brother of Jack Wohrle, David Wohrle and the late Thomas Wohrle; many dear cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; interment, St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.; members of the parish will offer prayers at the funeral home on Monday at 4:30pm. Jim Wohrle was born on December 28, 1949 and was a lifelong resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, the Knights of Columbus, Pope John XXIII Council, 1697 (prayers Monday at 4:00pm) and the 4th Degree Abraham Lincoln General Assembly. Jim had worked in the grocery industry for almost 50 years, starting out at the Whiting, Park View Grocery Store and retiring from the Whiting Strack & VanTil Supermarket. He was a loyal Chicago White Sox fan, an avid bowler and flower gardening was his passion. A devoted son and brother, Jim will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
