Hugh (Hubie) O'Donnell

Hugh (Hubie) O’Donnell, of Whiting, IN, passed away on December 4, 2024, at the age of 77, at Munster Med Inn where he was diligently cared for by Lisa and the staff on the fourth floor. He was preceded in death by his Irish grandparents, early Whiting residents, who built the third house on Central Avenue in Whiting in 1901, and his parents Hubert and Mildred (Hudak). Born on September 7, 1947, he was the eldest of seven children. His siblings included brother Jim (late wife Susan); Kathleen (Gene) Powell; Dick (Evelyn); Tom (Lorene); Mary Elizabeth (Dave) Dennie and Robert, and many loved nieces and nephews.

A lifelong resident of Whiting, he was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Whiting, and a graduate of Bishop Noll Institute, Hammond, Class of 1965. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from St. Joseph’s College in Renssalaer, IN. and worked for Murphy Lanier and Quinn CPA’s in Chicago and Steel Transport Inc. in Gary. He was a member of the Whiting Elks. He was an avid movie buff and wrote a book about his time working at the Hoosier Theater in Whiting.
